Hi again, Markus. In answer to you about the contrast, try playing around with the levels controls in any good photo manipulation program. Sometimes autolevels can give a very good result.

@Andrew Gould: Thanks Andrew, will give it a go. Does it also work with just the jpeg data or do I have to have the raw also?
Hi again, Markus. RAW converted to 16 bit TIFF (just do a search on Internet for the difference between this and 8 bit) has the most leeway, but you can still get good results with a jpeg. Convert the jpeg to a TIFF to work on it, though, as every time you resave a jpeg you lose quality with the compression. You can resave as a jpeg when you're sure you're not going to make any more changes. Good luck!

@Andrew Gould: Hi Andrew, many thanks for your time + explanation, this makes me really curious about how it will look like with enhanced contrast! Cheers!
